I've still got the transformers one? TRANSFORMERS!?!?!?! What was I thinking?
Announcement.
I am officially a Michael Jackson fan and PROUD of it!
He was the most talented person to ever grace the stage and the entire music industry needs to pay him his dues. Britney Spears has less talent than Michael's little toe.
After seeing This Is It, the world now knows that Michael could still dance like he did in his 20's, still sing as effortlessly as breathing, and still live humbly, spreading his worldwide message of love every chance he got.
To call Michael Jackson a singer is an insult, to call him a dancer is an understatement. He was a performer. The best we've ever known.
The media portrayed a weird, strange boy trapped in a mans body, departed from reality. The people believed the media. The media are responsible for their complete breach of ethical morals and slanderous journalism. He was ridiculed for his nose jobs, which, yes, he did have. Michael's first nose job was when he broke it, falling in dance rehearsals, and yes it would not be his last. He also had a chin cleft added. He didn't have his cheekbones done, nor his eyes, forehead, lips, or jaw. Michael's weight made a huge difference to his appearance. And besides, Michael got his nose done because he felt it was too big, and when he did get it smaller, it completely opened up his face, revealing his eyes and smile. It's no different than someone getting braces to straighten their teeth.
Michael put his heart into his work. While working on Thriller, he, his Manager and the techies at the studio regularly stayed awake for many days at a time to get the work done. Michael was determined to be recognized, as his last album, though wonderfully critiqued, was discriminated against in the Music Awards.
Thriller was a worldwide success. It won a record 8 Grammy's in 1984. A record Michael still shared only with Santana today, nearly 30 years since. In 1985, Thriller officially became the biggest selling album in all history when it sold 25 Million copies. It was recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records. It still is the biggest selling album of all time today, though now, Thriller has sold over 104 Million copies, and counting.
Michael Jackson became god.
In 1984 the Jacksons went on their last tour together. Michael donated his entire earnings to charities, children hospitals, orphanages, medical and environmental research centers in every city he visited. (He continued this trend, in part, for each of his world tours.)
It was around this time that Michael discovered white patches appearing on the fingernails of his right hand.
He was diagnosed with Vitiligo, and Discoid Lupus. The vitiligo was a gene his father's family carried. Vitiligo is most usually paired with a form of Lupus, Michael's was Discoid. Lupus symptoms are severe joint pain, muscle pain, due to tissue inflammation and damage. (Michael had suffered a collapsed lung because of this at one point.) Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease were the body's immune system becomes confused and doesn't function properly. It attacks and destroys the Melanin, what gives us all our skin colour. Some people only get in on one side of their body, some people only get it on their hands, feet and face, sometimes the Vitiligo can reverse itself. Some people even loose the colour of their hair, and very rarely, their eyes. Basically, they turn albino. Michael was fortunate to only have his skin effected, but his case was extreme. Vitiligo occurs in every race, no race is more likely to get it than any other. Woman and men get it equally. It is most commonly induced by stress.
Michael tried to hide it at first, even from his make-up artist, using makeup to cover the patched that appeared on his face and hands. His famous white rhinestone glove, was to cover the Vitiligo at first. When his make-up artist finally found out, she assisted him in hiding it. Whenever you see photos of Michael Jackson in the mid 80's, he's wearing make-up to hide the Vitiligo.
There is proof of Michael's vitiligo. Many pictures have been spotted were his make-up has rubbed off, especially on stage, it's been sweated off and the white colourless skin underneath is revealed. [link]
Michael signed the biggest advertising campaign in history to market Pepsi Cola. [link] This won the war during the 80's between Pepsi and Coka Cola.
[link] While filming one of these ads, Michael was to come down a set of stairs at a concert, with pyrotechnic explosions going off behind him. On the last take, the director asked Michael to step down the stairs a little later for a more dramatic shot. The explosions went off early, and some sparks set Michael's hair on fire. Due to the gel Michael was known to wear in his hair at this time, he suffered second and third degree burns to the crown of his head, almost burning through to his skull. [link] If it had not been extinguished in time, the heat of the fire could have easily roasted his brain resulting in permanent brain damage and even death.
Due to the tissue inflammation of his Lupus, the healing process was long and painful. Michael went through many painful reconstructive laser surgeries to repair the scaring on his scalp to allow his hair to grow back, which it eventually did, though the old burn still bothered him for the rest of his life.
Michael could have sued Pepsi for every cent they were worth, due to the breach of protocol. (By universal standards, no one is supposed to be that close to a pyrotechnics display.) But he didn't, he went on to shoot three more commercials up until the early 90's.
Bob Geldof, famous the world over for creating Live Aid to aid the starving Ethiopians in Africa, inspired a few members of the music industry to start an important project in 1985. Quincy Jones, (Michael's manager at the time,) called Michael and asked him if he wanted to be involved. One to always help a person in need, Michael agreed. So, he and Lionel Ritchie went about writing a song called 'We Are The World." Richie had recorded two melodies for "We Are the World", which Jackson took, adding music and words to the song in the same day. Jackson stated, "I love working quickly. I went ahead without even Lionel knowing, I couldn't wait. I went in and came out the same night with the song completeddrums, piano, strings, and words to the chorus."
The song was recorded on the same night as the American Music Awards that year. Upon entering the recording studio that night, the musicians were greeted by a sign pinned to the door which read, "Please check your egos at the door." Michael did not attend, instead, going into the studio early to record a guide track for the other artists. (As Michael and Lionel Ritchie had made the finishing touches the night before and no one else had heard it yet.) The other artists arrived about two hours afterward, at around 9 pm. They finished recording at 8 am the next morning. Although Michael was a co-writer on the song, he let Lionel Ritchie be the face of the production. Lionel Ritchie did all the press conferences and all the interviews. On the night of the recording, everyone turned to Michael for advise on the delivery of the lyrics, and everything else between. Apart from helping other artists and singing his own solos, Michael spent most of the night standing quietly off to the side of the room, as evidenced in the documentary video.
The whole song was divided up into solos... Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, Al Jarreau, Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, Daryl Hall, Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper, Kim Carnes, Bob Dylan and Ray Charles.
And then the huge choir effort, adding even more music-greats, Dan Aykroyd, Harry Belafonte, Lindsey Buckingham, Mario Cipollina, Johnny Colla, Sheila E., Bob Geldof, Bill Gibson, Chris Hayes, Sean Hopper, Jackie Jackson, La Toya Jackson, Marlon Jackson, Randy Jackson, Tito Jackson, Waylon Jennings, Bette Midler, John Oates, Jeffrey Osborne, Anita Pointer, Ruth Pointer and Smokey Robinson.
'We Are the World,' became the biggest selling single in both US and pop music history, until Elton John's 'Candle In The Wind,' for Princess Diana. As of 2009, 'We Are The World,' has earned $63 million dollars. But here's the special thing about this song. Not a single one of the artists, composers, musicians, producers or techies who were involved in the recording, organizing, and filming of the music video and documentary earned a cent. Every single dollar and dime went into Ethiopia in supplies, and medical equipment.
It was around this time that Elizabeth Taylor first called Michael, "The King of Pop, Rock and Soul."
The 'Thriller' era became the 'Bad' era, and then 'Dangerous,' 'HIStory,' and 'Invincible.' The media speculated about his skin issue, accused him of wanting to buy the Elephant Man's bones, sleeping in a Hyperbaric chamber, and having a pet chimp.
Before Michael bought Neverland, he would invite sick children he had gotten into contact with through the charities he supported to his home in LA. When he bought Neverland and built the zoo, amusement park and movie theatre, every weekend, two bus loads of sick or disadvantaged children would come to Neverland, free of charge. Most of the time, Michael wasn't there. He would be abroad, or in LA, working on his next album.
In 1993, he was accused of sexually molesting a boy he had gotten to know. This boy's father was a friend of Michael's, an aspiring screenwriter. He asked Michael to fund a film for him, Michael was not interested. This went on for a few months until the boys father suddenly accused Michael of sexual misconduct. Michael wanted to fight it out in court, his lawyers advised an out of court settlement. Michael was forced to a 25 minute strip search. The boy had provided a description of the King of Pop's private parts. This took place at Neverland, Michael was stood, naked, for 25 minutes while notes and photographs were taken. The boys description, and the evidence taken from that strip search, did not match. The boys father was payed $20 Million and was never heard of again.[link]
In 2005, a young teen suffering from cancer was invited to Neverland, with his older sister, brother and mother. The doctors had told his mother to plan for his funeral. For around six months, the three kids and their mother were friends of Michael, who provided financial support and let them have free reign of Neverland to boost the sick boy's spirits. Without the aid of chemotherapy, this boy's cancer went into remission, and eventually cleared up all together. The family and Michael were friends for almost a year, until Michael began distancing himself from them when the kids started to disrespect the staff at Neverland and take advantage of his hospitality.
He was accused with child molestation once again. And yes, the kids did sleep in Michael's bed on numerous occasions. He had a projector mounted to the roof and a mini-movie screen on one wall. Michael has never invited a child into his room, nor has anybody who has been to Neverland recall him doing so. The kids usually invite themselves in. (I've read an account of a kid who waited til he was asleep and crawled into bed with him and Lisa Marie Presley's kids during his marriage to her.)
This time, Michael fought it out in a lengthy court battle. The mother of this boy claimed that Michael had not allowed them to leave Neverland, yet, in the period of time she claimed this to have happened, Michael's bank details show she was out at the local beauty parlors on Michael's TAB. The children claimed Michael had given them alcohol. A staff member at Neverland caught the boys breaking into the wine cellar. These charges, including the molestation charges, equalled in total 14 charges. After months of court appearances, Michael Jackson was found innocent on all 14 counts.
He shed almost half his body weight. The stress he undergone brought up a particularly bad flare of Lupus, causing chronic back, joint, and muscle pain. (As an aging dancer, this would have been especially bad.)
On one court appearance, Michael had to attend in his pajamas. He had been at the hospital that morning (for back pain,) and had been told he would be granted penance for being late to court. As it turned out, he was not, and if he did not show, he would be taken into custody. Michael had wanted to change, knowing the media would have a field day. But his lawyers forbid it, and took him in his pajamas. (There are videos) He limped slowly from the car to the courthouse, his lawyer, and father, each holding an elbow to assist him.
After he was found innocent, Michael and his children relocated to North Africa for a year. They have not been back to Neverland since.
Michael Jackson was a chronic insomniac. (Especially while extremely busy, preparing for a tour.) Like with a lot of creative geniuses, their heads spin at a thousand miles and hour. Michael's mind rarely rested to let him sleep. (Heath Ledger also suffered from this exact same problem.) But unlike with Ledger, a great deal of Michael's insomnia was caused by pain. He had dancers feet, something all professional dancers suffer with, their bodies, most notably their feet, age very fast. Their feet do not get enough oxygen because of safety binding, the bones in their feet become deformed and their joints become arthritic as early as their forties. Dancers have some of the ugliest feet on the planet.
This caused Michael a lot of pain, even without his Lupus.
It was these reasons that Michael took pain medication and sleeping medication. Yes, he was addicted. YES, he went to rehab, and yes, he relapsed. At the time of his death, Michael was taking Demerol to get to sleep. Demerol is used to put patients to sleep before they have surgery. His doctors were allowing him to do this on a regular basis, they breached medical rules. Demerol is to administered in a hospital, and the patient is to be monitored.
At the time of Michael's death, his doctor was on the phone to his girlfriend. When his doctor found him not breathing, with a weak pulse, he performed CPR while Michael was still in bed. CPR is to be performed on a hard, flat surface, namely the floor. He worked on him for over 20 minutes before calling an ambulance. The paramedics performed CPR in the three minute trip to the hospital and then continued at the hospital for another hour and a half. Michael Jackson pronounced dead at 2:26 p.m, Thursday, the 25th of June, 2009.
Michael is in the Guinness Book of World Records at least four times. Once for the highest selling album of all time, 'Thriller.' Second, for the largest selling artist of all time, (Michael has sold 350-750 Million records.) Thirdly, for being the worlds most famous person. And fourthly, and MOST importantly, for having the highest record of charity.
Michael has given around 300 Million dollars to charity in his lifetime. He is listed as supporting and/or founding 39 charities. 33 charities were not counted in this number, as they were minor charities. That's a total of 72 charities. Michael has saved thousands of lives, enabled thousands of young people to get a proper education through scholarships, benefited countless communities and shaped the Pop music world as we know it today.
As an artist, Michael had influenced, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Usher, Chris Brown, Britney Spears, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Pink, Ludacris, 50 Cent, The Game, Fall Out Boy, Green Day, Miley Cyrus, John Mayer, Lenny Kravitz, R. Kelly and so many others that don't even know it yet.
MTV is renowned for playing the music videos of Pop artists. Before Michael Jackson, MTV (fairly new at the time,) played white rock. Michael's music video for 'Billie Jean,' was the first music video by a black artist on MTV.
Before the music video for 'Thriller,' music videos were a promotional tool. An artist may choose to do a music video to reach a larger audience, and therefore, a bigger sale. They had no storyline, and no were near the artistic cinematography of a film. They were largely the artist performing the song on an artistic backdrop. 'Thriller' changed all of that. The 13 minute short film was directed by renowned director John Landis, who did 'An Americna Werewolf in London.' 'Thriller,' is officially the most successful music video of all time. Michael Jackson was the first to use the music video not just as a way to reach his audience, but as just another way to create and perfect his craft. He pushed it from a promotional tool, to an art form.
The King of Pop, Michael Jackson, IS the bar which all pop artists strive to reach. He was a consummate professional, involved in every part of his career, his songwriting, recording, business career, advertising, touring, Michael was on board everything he did. He was known as the quiet perfectionist. He never yelled at the people he worked with, but he made it known that they must give their best for their audience.
Talent like we've never seen on this planet before, and never will see, Michael Jackson was a gifted singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, dancer, choreographer, actor, and businessman.
He had been raised in a strict household, often disciplined physically by his father. His mother instilled unshakable morals in he and his siblings. A well mannered, kindhearted man, he enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a huge Disney fan, loved all animals and all children because of their honesty. He suffered physically because of his Vitiligo and Lupus, but he danced through the chronic pain and was known as a founder of 80's style, despite his appearance. He suffered psychologically due to the media's attacks, because, as with Princess Diana (whom he was close to,) the press hunted him and painted him to be something he wasn't.
He was a simple man, who believed in doing the best he could at his job, and raising a family. His three children were, and are, his entire world. And they are his kids. Prince, the oldest boy, has Vitiligo too, and Paris, his sister, looks like Michael's mother, but she looks more like Debbie Rowe, her mother. Blanket, the youngest, looks the most like Michael, as his mother was not white, Michael's African American genes were able to shine through more. They are not white kids, they are biracial, you will find that they're skin colour is a coffee mocha colour, and not Caucasian.
Michael himself did not have full African blood (hardly any African American's do.) Both on his mothers, and fathers side of the family, there is white blood. As well as Native American on his father's side of the family, which gives all the Jackson's those high cheekbones.
When Michael's children told him they loved him, he would always reply with, "I love you more," it is a phrase Michael uses often, and his fans are thrilled to be honored with it quite often. He has been known to say often, that what he does is all for love, L.O.V.E.
Michael always said that lies run sprint races, but the truth runs marathons, and that the truth will always prevail.
A mis-interpreted human being, he has changed the world forever, his fans love him just as he loves them. And his soul, is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.
